German data officials were alerted when Facebook cookies were discovered. The cookies are attached to every profile that is created and can last up to two years after the user deletes their profile. After researching exactly what a cookie is, officials were worried that they were unlawfully being used to follow a previous users personal information. If the person does not know about this, it is considered illegal. The German officials approached the engineers of Facebook. It was stated that the cookies were not to track personal information but officials are still suspicious.
