iOS (pronounced I*O*S) is an operating system built for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch). Through the past updates Apple has realized many updates in the past that incorporated many useful and intuitive features. For instance in iOS 2 (at that time known as iPhone OS) released the well know App store that today contains over 400,000 applications available to download. The current update for iOS as of recently is iOS 4.3.5. This June, Apple announced iOS 5, the fifth in the worlds most popular smart phone operating system. IOS five brings the features of notification center, iMessage, Newsstand, Reminders, Twitter integration, a Revamped Camera UI (User interface), Revamped Photos UI, Revamped Safari UI, a PC Free UI, a revamped Mail UI, Revamped Calandar UI, Revamped Game Center UI, the ability to sync an iOS device over WiFi, Multitasking gestures for iPad, and AirPlay mirroring for iPad 2.
Notification center shows all alerts on your device in one place. It features a drop down windows from the menu bar that makes a list of all your current notifications by app. You can tap on any notification and it takes you to the app pertaining to that message. iOS 5 also changes the way you receive a notification. Instead of a polyp box for notifications a window revolves around the menu bar containing text and the icon of the message and icon respectively. iMessage allows all iOS 5 users free texting from within their devices. The text messages sync to all of your devices sent or not through iCloud. It features a read receipt, a typing and a loading message to let you know when someone is typing, has seen your message, and has received your message. Newsstand shows all your magazine subscriptions in a UI that looks like iBooks, but is inside a folder. Newsstand alerts you when a new issue of a magazine has been releasesed. Reminders let's you create lists of thing you need to do in an intuitive new app. It features notifications that can be sent when something is due, or when you walk inside a designated area. iOS 5 fully integrates Twitter is now integrated over all your apps. You will be able tweet photos, videos, safari pages, and more, right inside the app. The revamped camera app coupled with the new photos app, now features the options of editing (enhancing, croping, straitening, and red eye tools), the lines of thirds in the camera app, and many more. You can also double click the home button and a camera button displays right next the Slide to unlock switch. You can also snap pictures with the volume up button. Safari on iOS 5 incorporates tabbed browsing (iPad), reading list (add articles to read later), reader (removes the distracting ads pictures, etc from an article) and various UI adjustments. The PC features mean that when you buy an iOS device you can activate and set up the device all right out of the box. It also incorporates iCloud sync, so you can have an iPad as your only computer. The Mail app gets rich text editing, (Styling options: bold, italic, etc.). It also syncs your email to iCloud so your email is updated on all your devices. The calendar app on the iPhone Allows week view. And the calendar on the iPad allows a yearly view. All Calandars are synced with iCloud. Game center now features the ability to add photos , and view friends of friends. Wifi sync allows the ability to sync your iOS device to your computer running iTunes wirelessly over a shared wifi network. iOS 5 for the iPad now allows four finger gestures to open the multitasking bar, switch between apps, go to the home screen, and more. AirPlay was introduced as a video sharing option to Apple TV. Now you can mirror your iPad 2 wirelessly to an Apple TV, so you can share exactly what's on your screen, on your big screen TV at home, or at work, or anywhere.
iOS five will be available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd Generation, iPod Touch 4th Generation, iPad, and the iPad 2.
