Many stores are being reported as “permanently closed” on Google Maps. Recently, a coffee shop lost a lot of business due to this misunderstanding. Even though they never closed, it was reported that they were due to the traffic on Google Maps and the ability of anyone to click a button that can say a business is closed. If enough people click on this button, the business status is changed to closed and Google will produce an article confirming this, even though they did not check with the business. People are taking actions to keep this from happening, but it is ultimately up to the readers to decide what they want to read and believe.
