Robonaut 2

NASA has created a dexterous humanoid robot named Robonaut- a technological miracle capable of expanding our knowledge of Outer Space, and discovering places humans would never dare go. NASA has wasted no time and has already created four Robonauts, with others currently in the process of development. One of these interesting creations (called Robonaut 2 or R2) has already been launched into the International Space Station (ISS) on the space shuttle Discovery, as part of the STS-133 mission. This is the first U.S. built robot ever sent into space. Sent to the ISS on February 24, 2011, R2 has just woken up on Monday. Mission Specialists Mike Fossum and Satoshi Furukawa help R2 come alive and make sure it is able to properly function, move, and communicate, while on Earth NASA workers watch live space from the Robonaut's eyes. Now in orbit, R2 will soon be able to explore new worlds in a dangerous realm: space.
